Henley-on-Thames

At the weekend, Alana and I decided to visit Henley-on-Thames. It’s a lovely little town, with plenty of cute shops and a farmers market. We had a wander around the shops and came across an charming bookshop and old-fashioned butchers/fishmonger, the kind of place that feels like it’s been there forever.

The farmers market was great too. I got myself a cheese and onion toastie, while Alana picked up some biltong, olives, feta and pesto. We had a lovely walk around, and Alana decided it would be a nice idea to buy some flowers and a wreath for our front door. It was one of those days where the weather was nice, everything felt relaxed, and we weren’t in any rush to be anywhere.

So naturally, we thought it would be a good idea to walk back to Wargrave. We figured it would take about an hour. It did not.

With bags of shopping, flowers and a wreath in tow, we set off on what turned out to be a much longer walk than expected. Along the way, there were a few near misses with cars flying past, and our feet were starting to give up on us. By the time we finally made it back, we’d had enough of walking for one day.

We’ve learnt a few things from this little adventure. It’s not exactly a light stroll between the two towns, trainers are a must, and probably best not to go on a shopping spree before attempting the walk home. Still, it was a lovely day out, and we now have some nice flowers and a wreath to show for it.
